Tone Tubby developed a new low profile Alnico speaker that fits inside amps with tight speaker spacing. Compact guitar amps can now enjoy the relaxed musical voicing of vintage Alnico with Hempcone texture and tonal balance.
The Key Largo uses the same thinner Hempcone as the Purple Haze model so it is an ideal speaker for players who want every aspect of their playing style and technique to come through the speaker, from the most subtle variations of pick and finger attack to full bore singing sustain. It combines the clarity and definition of the classic guitar and instrument speaker with the sweetness of an alnico magnet design without a trace of harshness that is present with metal-dome speakers.
The magnet’s tighter field around the voice coil also adds more efficient power handling. If you desired a Purple Haze with lower efficiency for your compact amp, you got it now. 35 Watt.
