i'm thinking about adding a boost switch to my 18w. its a "Richie" TMB for the most part, and instead of the 2k7 resistor on the cathode originally, its 820. so would you still recommend adding the 2k7 in parallel with the 820?

No, you're about at the limit there. You colud put a 22-25 uf cap across the 820 though.

ok i kinda went in reverse with it. i put in a 2.7k instead of the 820. then i wired in a switch as suggested with the additional 2.7k and 22uf cap in parallel. when the switch is off its really clean compared to how it was with the 820. but with the switch on, its nice n gritty. off position is called "when wife's home". on is " when she's gone".
