Yes, I was talking about the Ric 360. I ordered mine in the summer of '06 and just got it this past fall... Worth the wait though... :D

The Triwatt is imminent!!! 8)

Reading thru I see that two options (simple & more complex) transformers are being tested. What are the major differences? (Is there a line level out option on the complex one?)

Also could the power transformer being tested handle a Heyboer 50watt EL34 Hiwatt Transformer, instead of the stock OT, or would it be pushing it to much?

I am pretty sure I would like to go with the stock transformers (for the 6V6 & KT66), but I would like to know if the 50 watt EL34 Transformer is an option. - (I ran into my box of unused EL34 Teslas I bought when they stopped production in the early 90s.)

Thanks:

I think we went around the EL34 horn but , no, the OT for this will best accommodate 6V6 or KT66. Not that the EL34 wont work with it, just not perfectly. The PT should be fine though not as high as some.

There is no line out on this OT, this is a function of the design (which can be easily added later).

Sorry for the confusion. I ment that if the stock transformer was swapped out and replaced with something like a Mojo (Heyboer) MOJO785 50W Hiwatt OT, that was design the use EL34 tubes.

Thanks:

Yes, the transformers we're testing at the moment have the same mounting hole arrangement as 50W Hiwatt clone iron. However, our PT's voltage is a little on the lowish side for EL34s, so you wouldn't get the usual 50 to 60WMS out.

I think I should clarify a little here. The classic Hiwatt/Partridge OT "line out" is a 100V line output, for driving multiple muzak speakers typically mounted in ceilings. Somehow, I doubt that would be a lot of interest to you. :)

We've actually been testing out several different varieties of OTs and PTs, to find which are most suitable, some based on the Hiwatt/Partride designs and some not. Price-wise, we have found the law of diminishing returns also very much applies. Surprisingly, the PT has proved the hardest to get right, since you need high voltages to get the signature Hiwatt sound, but you don't want to go so high that the 6V6s get fried. Some of the PTs we tested also delivered rectified DC voltages below spec.

Been kind of quiet for a few days :D

What's the ETA for the transformers that you're waiting on now and how are they different from the last set tested? :P :P

Inquiring minds want to know

Got to Zaphod's and we cranked it up - a bit. Cleans to die for. Throw in the OD and crunch to die for. 8) Kicked some butt!

It has over 450V on the plates so we have taken TRIWATT up yet another notch.

We think bgroup will be happy. :D I know I was!!

Wish I could have gone with you. I thought for a second, I'd be able to sneak in the back way.

Damn family commitments :D

My wife's gonna be pissed! 8)

Is that with 6V6s or KT66s?

A friend of mine loves the first years of old Marshall Plexi 100 Watts. I heard the reason why they sounded better, to some people, was the higher voltages. Cleaner and more like a Hiwatt.

That's with the JJ 6V6s. I'm going through a series of tests with the 6V6s, before I test with the KT66s. I absolutely agree with you about the voltage thing. IMO the toughness of the Hiwatt tone depends on high voltages, including around 400V in the preamp and PI. This is also why a VVR doesn't make a whole lot of sense in this type of amp.

With the higher voltage this amp is sounding the Hiwattish best I've ever heard it! I can already sense Brent salivating. Not a good thing to do near any high-voltage tube amp!
