Does anybody know that size female spade connector fits properly on a tone tubby red 10" speaker?
And what size wire gauge crimps properly? I looked at making my own by cutting a speaker cables with 1/4 plugs in two. The Daddarios cable is typical, constructed with 16 AWG wire. THe female 0.205" connectors are specified to use 18-22 AWG wire, a little tight for a 16 Gauge. Do I just snip off some of the strands to make it fit?

The cable:

Connector kit:

Or alternatively, is there something off the shelf that goes from the 1/4 jack in the head to the speaker lugs in the cabinet?

Thank you all,
Peter

I had the same question regarding spade connectors a while back, and came across this at WGS. I ordered some and they work like a charm for every speaker I've used.

As for the wire gauge, I suppose that depends on how long the run is to the cab. Short runs (combos, a few feet) you can probably use 20AWG no problem, even with a 50-100W head. Longer runs may require heavier gauge. But once you arrive at the cab, you can use smaller gauge.

Looking inside a Marshall 4x12 cab you will probably see 20AWG wire going from the jacks to each speaker.

I ended up buying
1. a 16AWG speaker cable: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00 ... =UTF8&th=1
2. an assortment of 14-16 AWG female spade connectors: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07 ... UTF8&psc=1

As the article noted by PharmRock above indicated, the 0.205" ones fit well. The fit is snug and they can be removed. I think the real challenge will be getting the amplifier working. I checked every connection multiple times. But despite my best efforts, it's been difficult to avoid the sixth grade sicience fair style in some of the wiring.

Have you powered on the amp yet? What type of problems are you encountering?

Powering it up is the project for the weekend. For now, I'm studying the startup guide and thinking it through. I'm getting pretty eager though...

I highly recommend getting a light bulb limiter. It adds an "extra layer of protection" on start-up, and is a great visual cue if something is going or about to go wrong. Decreases likelihood of blowing a fuse, and more importantly, helps protect the transformers.

It worked. Many thanks!
