Here's the only picture I have of the coax cable at the volume control. I basically followed the instructions in the manual. The shield is covered with red heat shrink tubing and there's more heat shrink tubing around the cable where the inner conductor and the shield come out.

The shield isn't connected at the other end so it just gets cut off flush with the outer insulation and some heat shrink tubing goes around the end of the cable to ensure that the shield can't touch any part of the chassis. If it does it could cause a ground loop resulting in hum.
