http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=izKcaSRGXr0Shawn is a great blues player and road tests a lot of our amps. He always has one on the go.
When Shawn and I first auditioned the amp, I made some tube changes from 12AX7s to reduce the gain which I though was a bit much.
Then we put in a12BH7 instead of the designed 12AU7 output tube to give it some more heft and body.
These changes helped a lot.
We are currently using a stock Hammond 125B output transformer and I think it's a weak link. I've never been impressed by the Hammond output transformers, so I contacted Phil at Heyboer and gave him a set of specs. We are getting two custom ones made to compare.
Then I contacted Matt at Musical Power Supplies and he wound us a special one as well and sent it up.
So as we did with the original 18 watt transformer, we are repeating and doing a tone taste test with the TriFly output transformers. There will be 4 of them!
Once that is done, we will tailor the circuitry to dial in the tone the players like most.
