Hi all just finished firing up a Amp I built based on the sIII V6 design all my voltages checked out great except my phase inverter volotages at the 470K resistors which are around 30 volts or so. Changes tubes and checked all the resistors all are correct anyone have any other thoughts on this. Thanks JGK

Can you confirm the 820R and 56K resistors are correct?
Does the voltage change when you put in a different 12AX7 tube at all?

Does it sound ok?

Thanks my voltages are around 33 or so doesn't change much with tubes all the resistors are correct. The normal channel is very good, quiet but very loud when you crank it. I have a very loud hum on the TMB channel and very little volume I have double checked my cliff jacks and they seem fine. Any thoughts on whats happing I have also checked and rechecked my wiring and connections. Stumped fro tonight. JGK

The PI grids are at a very high impedance, so many multimeters can't accurately measure the voltage at the grids. Instead, to get a correct reading, you have to measure at the *base* end of the 470ks, where they join together above the PI tail resistor.

Used a different multi meter both sides are reading in the 50s. Still have a lot of hum in TBM channel tonight I need to check my cliff jack wiring and tone stack as I'm sure its a ground problem somewhere there. The normal side sounds really good and is very quiet. Thank JGK

Finally figured it out after screwing with cliff jack wiring and hookups. The number 2 position on thew tube socket was screwed up I had cleaned since it had some solder in it and I must have screwed it up. Anyway things are all running well and the hum is also gone. JGK

It's very hard to check that sort of thing out but I'm glad you got it fixed.

Gave it a test run today its sounded great wife was gone and I live in the Mts so I played pretty loud for a few hours. Very sweet sounding 6V6s are different, cleaner sounding and actually they seem brighter almost voxish at times. The amps is pretty quiet although there is a very low hum in the background and the boost can get ragged when maxed out. I hope to post some pics later as all this went into a 10" x 17" chassis I reclaimed and stuffed the works in old crate cabinet. This is the 5th amps I've built and the most complex without a kit. Over the holidays I built a Vibro champ clone with bigger transfomers so I could also run a 6L6 with a GZ34 great house amp although with a 12" speaker it also can get loud. Great forum JGK
