Thanks to Stephen I have a new Tramp!
A combo style that takes a big fat bottle and pounds out sound.
It has no problem with bass, keyboards or pedals. So far I have had it plugged into every cab I have and it will stay on/in an open back 115.
Speaker is a WGS G15C
Using new stock tubes at this time but will be trying several others that I have. The KT88 makes the Tramp a monster. I love the Tramp but this new one is special and also has a second 9 pin base pre installed and some wiring done. It gives me a few options.
It has a huge fat sound, I love it.

Quote:
Amp is done. Here's how it works. In the end I went with an extra toggle switch for full flexibility & selection.
2 switches in the back.
1. Lo bias / Hi Bias
2. 5K OT impedance / 2.5K OT impedance
Since EL34 & KT88 can run on the same bias as 6L6, I left the stock set up in there i.e. 750 ohm for 6V6 and 560 in parallel with 750 for EL34 / KT88.
so to run KT88/EL34, you flip to HI Bias / 2.5K
to run KT66 flip to HI Bias / 5K
to run 6V6 Lo bias / 5K.

I've been amazed myself at how well these amps will handle bass, when fitted with a big KT88, especially through an external cab.

Still don't know what to do with the 2nd tube socket, but reverb and spring are winning right know. Still thinking about it. Amp is now in its new home. I really liked the sound of it with one of my ext cabs.
Out came my favorite new tool. A vibrating multi tool with saw blade attached.
Tramp went in.
A screen insert is going in the hole. Power cord will be grometted into screen.
Speaker is a WGS ET65
What the 6L6GC is to the 6V6, the KT88 is to everything else. IMO
The Tramps are first choice for guitarists, followed by the Triwatt.

Used Timbermate grain filler with med brown tint. Laquered over that.

This is a big voiced amp. I use it with keys and just love the results.
It also does well as a bass amp.
This version is a little fussier then my 6L6 tramp, It gets a little boomy with some pups at lower volumes. Some pedals it just won't play nice with.

Overall it is a great addition to my amp line up.

Good information. I am going to try either a 6550 or a kt120 and see how it sounds. Tung sol has a kt120 that is same cost as a 6550 or kt88.
