 Post subject: Microphonic Input Jack?

Hi guys,

I just built a variant of an AC30/4 and I'm having some weird behavior with the input jack. When I go to plug a cable in and I hit the medal ring on the outside of the jack a hi pitched ringing gets amplified through the amp. The input jack is grounded properly and the EF86 isn't microphonic. Any ideas?

You could be setting off mechanical vibrations. What happens if you tap the chasis? Does it start to ringing? If so, on of your tubes is microphonic.
