I've got some big iron lying around for a couple of AC30-style amp head projects. The 18w folks seem to like beefing up to a 36w version of that amp. I'm wondering if a 30w "Lightning Storm" or "Heat Lightning" or "Ball Lightning" might work out too.

I think it would be cool to do that, but I'd upgrade to the Lightning. Then you can basically just add two more EL84s, just like the DC-30. If you're making up a new chassis, punch and extra hole for an EF86 channel, just in case you ever want to do a DC-30 Lite!

That would be cool!! Any idea what components would need to change? I'm guessing some increased filtering and then the bias resistor/cap combo would change values.

I've never seen a DC-30 schematic, or layout for that matter- is it 2 sets of el84 in parallel?

There a DC-30 schematic posted in the "Dressing Room" . The layout is not done, but you could just take the Lightning layout, and add a few more parts & away you go! Keep us posted!

I'm actually startled it isn't a standard build to extrapolate out from a Lightning to a "DC-15" with the extra pentode channel.

I built a "DC-15", and I'm pretty taken with the pentode stage. I ended up ditching the 2x12ax7 channel and reused the controls and terminals for a baxandall-ish tonestack and master volume.

2 fewer tubes, lots of tonal possibilities. I'll get schematics up after I clean up the cocktail napkin versions.

Interesting idea - modify the basic Spitfire design, swapping the parallelled 12ax7 out for the EF-86. The mid control might be a better match then the Spit tone stack, but it seems worth a try - not a whole lot to mess with.
