I'm building a dc30 type of amp excluding the ef86 channel. What I'm tring to figure out is what type of tone stack would suit me best. I'm familar with the TMB and have used it a couple times, i like the control it gives but something simplier would be nice. What type of response could i expect from standard tone stack that is already in the schematic. It's looks very interesting and i've heard postive feedback...what's everyone think.

Tone wise, I what something with a good amount of clean headroom and little compressed breakup when the volume knob on my guitar is dimed. Ef86 channel sounds great but I would never use it.

the treble/bass controls along with the cut control works quite well. Essentially you are building a better tuned ac-30 top boost channel. Should sound brilliant. I build one for a friend a few years ago and its one of my favorite amps!

You'll find the tone stack in the DC30/Lightning very versatile and flexible. It will give you a much wider range of control than the TMB BUT it will take some getting used to because it is interactive.

Instead of a 4x EL84 = i.e. 30 watt lightning or sSC/AC30 clone could a 2xEL34 amp with the same tone stack and a MV like the lightning be done?

Sort of a clubman but with 12ax7's?

I have always preferd the Matchless version of tone stack. I have a vinateg Pro reverb and A less vintage Bandmaster reverb and the addition of the mid control is nothing. Ther pro kills the bandmaster and I never miss that mid knob.
