So, I'm thinking, you could get the 30 watt transformers, how difficuilt would it be to put in to EL34's instead of EL84's? Or a 4-pack of EL84's?

Pretty straightforward, especially with the 4-EL84. Some output config as the DC-30.

Any cap value changes or resistor value changes, or could I bump up and get the 30 watt trannies and just add two power tubes?

has anyone actually built this DC30 clone yet?

What about dropping a pair of EL34's into the existing LIghtning with some 30 watt matchless trannies?

No one has built that version. In fact the layout is not correct. It's just posted in case someone wanted to take up the torch and try it. I believe that the schematic is good.

I'm not sure if the B+ voltage is high enough :?: but theoretically, you could put EL34's into the Lightning with 30 watt transformers. However, it would not sound like a 30W Lightning or DC-30. The EL84 have a real sound/chime to them. It's interesting to note that Vox dropped 2-EL34's in the early AC-30 in favour of 4-EL84, just to get that chime.

This topic was moved to the more appropriate 30Watt EF-86 forum.

AC50s and AC100s still have a recognizable "Voxy" character even with EL34s.

True, but Vox did switch to 4-EL84's from 2-EL34s in the AC-30. I guess it's hard to beat that chimey EL84 sound in a low watt design.
