Stephen,

ever consider trying a clubman 35 build? That's the one I've got my eye on when I'm done with the Lightning (chassis just came in today from Ceri@tone).

I hear they're awesome. I sold the Lightning concept so I'm not sure how to sell an amp that I can't demo! Having said that, I'm sure I could figure out a way if he wants to go to 30W.

Wouldn't a 30W Lightning be pretty much the same as a single-channel TB AC30?

I don't know how OT this is, but I thought maybe you'd be interested. According to Dick Denney's Vox book (I guess there's some truth to it if he wrote it :P), Vox went from AC30/4 to AC30/6 because bassists not guitarists would make the EF86s go microphonic. They tried to play very loud (what else is new) and very clear, and their low frequencies would rumble the things apart. There's no mention of guitarists having had such problems.

Of course, it's still a good idea to be cautious with your EF86s, more so than with other tubes because they are obviously more fragile than ECC83s (that's why Vox changed to ECC83s). But I think that some folklore grew around this issue over time and people get unduly paranoid. Of course, the old Svet tubes are supposedly of widely varying quality which will have added grease to the rumour mill.

BTW Can anyone confirm or deny the JJ-EF86 rumour?

Well, the JJ rumour seemed to be going round for quite a while but I've recently heard (on http://www.18watt.com, iirc) that someone spoke with Jan himself and he said that they would commence EF86 production soon.

I thought the Russian production had ceased entirely, that's why Mike Zaite bought up all stock he could find.

Was there any mention of when they would be available?

Hello,

I asked them to build a EF86 tube like the Phillips/ Mullard last year. They working hard now to get them as noisless as possible.

Henk

Hbamps

Here is a copy of a email in witch they confirm to have it ready at the end of the year.

Good afternoon Henk,

thank you for all your information.

Would it be possible to buy some of mentioned tubes and send them to our company.

Of course we will pay for them and also for transport to you.

New EF86 should be ready sometimes at the end of the year.

Best regards,

Julia Jurcova
