For a week now, we have been playing a new variation of the sIII which has both EL84 and 6V6. We call it the sIII V6 and it is good! Clips soon I hope!

The power tubes are foot switchable. Basically sounds like two amps in one package. Then we added a foot switchable serious boost/gain as well which is practically like a pedal so it's like more amps in one. Jump the channels ... the mind boggles.

The clips sound great. Did you ever solve the popping noise when switching the power channels? Mine does that but, only when switching back to the EL84's. They are on the normal position of the relay. I tried putting a small cap on the footswitch but, no differance.

We still get a little pop when switching. Cant hear it when playing, really only when not playing. Biggest problem was the boost pedal which was solved by using two vactrols.

Is it possible to use two vactrols to switch the power tubes? Perhaps use a stereo cord to the foot switch and send power to one or the other according to the switch position? I guess I'm asking if the vactrol will handle the current that is on the tube circuit.

Photocells are primarily used for signal control since the maximum allowable power dissipation is low. Current should be kept below 10 mA.

Plus, they do not have a low enough 'On' resistance to be used in series with a cathode resistor.

I have the RoboAmp in QA right now and I am very happy with it. The 6V6 tone is quiet different from the EL84 tone. More bass and warmer clean tones.

I have tried the amp with A pair of old celestions (awesome) and a Altec in a closed cab (crazy train). If it lives through the burn in period (shouldn't be a prolbem) then tonight I will hook it up to a pair of alnico tone tubbies and see what happens. Clips to follow.
