I've started a sIII kit and have a couple questions:

1)I have the tube sockets installed as follows, rectifier, outputs, space, space, preamps. Should I put a space between the rectifier and the output tubes, or is it fine next to it? I have the heater wires soldered in already, but I can change it if it will cause problems.

2) I wired the big cap, and guessed that the black rivet on the one lug means ground. Am I right, or will this thing shoot into outerspace when I apply power?

Thanks for your help!
Joseph

joseph, Yes, big black lug is ground connection. The latest layout shows recommended slots for the tubes.

I was impatient and built before you got a chance to reply. :) I have my three 12ax7s all the way to the side of the chassis. It was tight, but I managed to get the two turret boards mounted on both sides of the far socket. Built it, tested it, and am happy that it is working!!! I noticed the squeel past MV 8 and checked on this forum. I just grounded my output jacks to the chassis, and the squeel is gone! Thanks guys.

Congrats on the build. Usually we reverse the leads on the Output tranny to get rid of a squeal, but I see you got rid of it by grounding - good work.

Any pics you want to post?
