i've finished my Plexi build...and am just waiting for my shell to arrive...but...the tinkerer in my is awake again...

i think i may try to add some more gain to the TMB channel as per the manual...but the other thing i'm kind of interested it is...if i did the cascade mode...what kind of tone/sound are we talking here? 80's hard rock? 70's rock?

also...is it better to go TMB to normal or normal to TMB?

upping the gain on the TMB channel is easy...just swap a couple parts...i'd like just a little more dirt...but the cascade mod has me curious as to what it could become...

A couple of things you can do to increase gain, and one is to remove the 100K resistor to ground on the vol pot of TMB channel. You can sub the 500k vol pot with 1M too. We usually do Normal to TMB cascading.

i clipped the 100k resister out...it almost sounds fuzzy...not in an overly pleasing way...

I don't think so. If you don't like it, solder it back in place.

About the cascade mod: if you're thinking TMB into Normal, that’s usually the preferred route since the TMB channel has tone shaping and more gain stages to begin with. Doing the cascade can push the amp into a heavier, more saturated tone—think late '70s rock pushing into early '80s hard rock territory. With the right tweaking, you can even get into early metal territory without pedals.

Also, if you're after just a bit more dirt without totally changing the character, your idea of upping the gain in the TMB channel (swapping the cathode resistor/cap or tweaking the cold clipper) is a solid move.

While I was tinkering with mine, I also spent some time messing with classic android game mods like Traffic Rider—it’s a different kind of fun, but still scratches that “builder” itch between solder sessions
