Low and behold you were correct.

Put in a fresh set of JJs out of a box today (3 preamp tubes only) and viola... feedback issues have disappeared; in fact the amp sounds fantastic (was able to try it out at lunch today)

Thanks for the idea and help; guess I should have thought of that myself :roll:

Bought them at Songbird... guess I could try the EH's that you suggest but these sounds pretty good to me for now

You should try just one JJ in V3 (in your amp its the one the Master Volume is connected to). This would most likely be the suspect tube. Then you can save your JJs if you want. I doubt they were all bad.
