Hi all!

Not to start a war or anything, but are we stuck with orange drops and Sprague Atoms when purchasing kits? Are there any "upgrades" available. I just find ODs on the harsh and non musical side of things.

Thanks!

Steve

Depending on the kit the caps can be Orange Drops, Mallory, SoZo, ETR, etc.

Caps alone do not make an amp sound "harsh" and non-musical, that's the circuit.

If you want to substitute, we can normally switch between Mallory's and Orange Drops. Sozos are a more expensive and we only carry about 6 values. Sozos are stock in 18 watt type amps.
Just email your request and we'll do our best for you.

Right, but wouldn't you agree the amp is the sum of its parts, and if you use parts that are too harsh or brittle sounding that's what you are going to end up with? If you use tubes, caps and speakers that are known to sound bright, chances are that the outcome will too.

its very hard to hear the tonal difference in Caps but the biggest difference will be between the Orange Drops and Mallory 150s / Sozo. I think the ODs have a bit of an edge the others do not.

Thank you Stephen. I sent an email to you yesterday to order my kit. Please sub the SoZo or Mallory for the ODs. I'm really looking forward to my new kit!

Oh.... For the lacquering on the case, can the final coat be a darker/deeper amber?

Thanks for everything!

Steve

We can color it and shade. Deeper is fine.
