Now that I'm a proper owner of a Trinity ODS I wanted to share the results of some of my tube swapping experiments. A few years ago when I got my Two Rock I started buying OS and NOS tubes like crazy. Right now I have used the following tubes in the amp.
NOSMazda 6V6GT
JAN (Joint Army Navy) CLRV 6V6GTY
Marconi 5871
RCA6V6 (Silver Top)
Marconi 6V6 GTY (made in Canada)
Westinghouse 6V6 clear glass
Current ProductionEH 6V6EV
Groove Tubes Black Glass 6V6 Performance #3
Tung Sol 6V6
Being a bit of a cork sniffer and envelope pusher I've been swapping tubes in the output section looking for....more of whatever it is I look for more of in these situations.
First let me say that i've rotated in all tubes listed above and the original tubes Steve installs are the best by far. The new Tung Sol 6V6s are harmonically rich and saturate in a very musical way when pushed. It seems the amp was tuned for use with these tubes and my ears and fingers can tell. For now I'll stick with these. The others are good but lack some of the lower midrange girth that the Tung Sols have.
All tubes were biased at 21 ma. or as close as possible when the pairs weren't perfectly matched.
Cheers for Now,
Lar'E
