Hey I just saw a post on one of the facebook groups about a tube based fx loop on a circuit board. Has anyone tried this? I was thinking about getting one and trying it out.

Damm never look in this part of the forum

This one has always interested me .

But there also links to many different type of tube and non tube loops out there. Hoffman forums has a few some just point to point right over the tube socket. Will also depend on what amp you want to integrate it too

A FET based one is probably just as good but with less appeal. I think that one on that forum would be very good tho. We were going to try one and started to discuss becoming the Canadian rep, but just no time so far. If you give it a go, please let us know what you think.

I agree. Unless your effects are all tube, your signal is going to hit FETs, OpAmps, maybe even go digital for a time anyways.

Do you have a favorite FET schematic?

For the buffer portion of the FX loop a FET is as good as a tube tone wise. I have used HV MOSFETs as source followers (buffers) a few times with great results.

It's the recovery stage (gain stage) that you want to be tube. Often times overdriving (clipping) the recovery stage is part of the amp's tone.

Yes that is often the goal from the get-go, but if your design goal is to have as "transparent" a loop as possible, then there is no need for tubes at all.
