A little embarassed, but I have a couple old bass cabs that I am not 100% certain on their impedance. You'd think I'd remember, but I've completely forgotten.

I know that I can simply plug a cord in the back and measure the resistance between the tip and ring. But resistance isn't necessarily the same as impedance.

What should the relationship be when measuring resistance? One cab is a 1x12 and the other is a 2x10.

If they are 8 ohm cabs, what should the resistance roughly read? What about if they are 4 ohm cabs?

Feeling a bit stupid at this point!

If the impedance of the cab is 4R then the resistance should read somewhere from 2.5R-3.5R
If impedance of the cab is 8R then the resistance should read somewhere from 5.5R-7R
And so on....

Those are just rough numbers but should give you an idea. You could always look at the speakers themselves and see if they have markings.

Impedance is resistance and reluctance with a dependent frequency component. Resistance is constant with no relation to frequency or reluctance.

Thanks. I opened up teh 1x12 a week ago and could not see any markings whatsoever. I measured about 3.5 ohm DC resistance and figured it was a 4 ohm speaker, but just wanted a sanity check.
