Yes, they are! It's like a normal diode. There's usually a band around one end and that's the cathode. On the schematic symbol the cathode is the zig-zag line at the point of the triangle. Connect the banded end to the gate on the Mosfet.

Thanks, Mitch! I think I've got the board populated except for most of the fly leads now.

Ok, here's up to date pics. I know the 10k c.f. resistor goes from the ground lug to pin #2 on the 12ax7 socket, but can't find where the 270 ohm 1/2 watt goes. And, I found the 10k 2w MO I thought was missing. I had it on the board. If anyone sees anything amiss, please speak up, I'm still a newb at this!!

File comment: The blue wire going in thru the speaker jack is a fly lead, I tucked it in there till I get back to soldering tomorrow.

Yes, the one I got with my Tramp was a glassy looking orange color with a dark band on one end. The black band is equivalent to the silver band on the black 1N4007 diodes. The band determines the polarity or direction of current of a diode. The black band should be toward the gate (G) on the VRM eyelets as shown in the Layout drawing. Hope you found the diode and that this helps.

The only place I see that uses a 270 ohm on the layout is on the terminal strip for LED indicator lamp near the Power and Master Volume controls at front of chassis.

Here's the board, my phone died earlier before I could upload all of em. Trying to take close up, detailed pics for you guys to check my work, and if I'm right, for future builders to reference.

The red, purple, Brown carbon film resistor in the first pic, is it not a 270? The one in the bag.

The pictures look good. I didn't check to make sure all the parts are in the right place, but I didn't see any glaring mistakes.

Red-purple-brown is 270 ohms. Like Hankules said, the only place I see a 270 ohm resistor on the schematic and the layout drawing is on the LED serving as the pilot light.

The one I have definitely came with the kit, but it's a good bit larger than the one for the power indicator light. I labeled all of them when I first opened the kit, except the ones for the vrm. It still has the label on one lead. But, everything I need is there now, and almost all installed.

Epi, please post pics of interior, front panel and the resistor. There should be a terminal strip near the pilot light and should have one end soldered to a lead on the LED and the other to the terminal strip. with every thing connected , it should look like the picture on page 30 of the build guide. There is only one (1) 270 ohm resistor listed in the Bill of Materials (BOM). Also, you might consider going to the Tramp support page and downloading the COLOR, PDF build guide if you haven't already. Steven prints the one that come with the kit in black and white, the color guide made it easier for me to pick out some details

http://www.searchingtabs.com/rcolor/rescolor.htm Also, I have found this very helpful for verifying resistor codes. You may want to use it if you build another amp in the future.

Ok, I figured out where my zener diode got lost at... I used it in place of the 270 ohm for the l.e.d. I had a snafu removing the zener diode, and broke a lead of the led, so now I gotta order a new one of those. Good thing is, I know what I did wrong!

As of now, most fly leads aren't connected yet, but I'm working on em. Here's the current state.

Coco, is there a special type of led, or can I just order any old led from internet?

BOM indicates: LED RED 5mm, 10 mA. So you need a 5 millimeter diameter red LED rated for 10 milliamps. Actually any color is fine, just make sure the diameter and milliamp rating are correct.

Epi, looked on Amazon, they want to sell you whole kits. Most were rated at 20 mA, so you might check w/ Coco and see if they will work.

What's the reverse current rating mean? I found the 20mA led's, & some say the max reverse current is 10mA. Does that mean they'll work?
