Hi,

After a few recommended fixes at the end of amp-camp, I came home and did them (a connection missing, a lead going to the wrong eyelet etc). I double checked/compared the wiring to the diagram and everything looked good (to me anyway)...so I figured I'd try it out. I put the tubes in, connected a load, crossed my fingers and turned it on. No smoke, no burning smell and the LED light came on. But alas, no sound when I plugged in. It's my first build so I wasn't expecting perfection right away. And I'm sure you've all seen cleaner builds , but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions (pics attached).

On the plus side I'm really happy the way my combo-cab is turning out! I went for a stain finish (first time for that too)...just waiting for it to dry now...but until then...on to the pics:

So I have been reviewing the pics here against the layout for a bit now and the only one thing out to me:
On the "tude" switch/pot it looks like you have the shielded cable wired wrong.
-The "sheild" should go to pin one of the potentiometer.
-The "core" should go to pin two of the potentiometer only.
-There should be a jumper wire installed connecting pin one of the potentiometer to the center terminal on the left side of the tude switch.

Check the pics in my thread (called More Amp Camp Success) for a better view of this.

Let us know how you make out!
Good luck!
-Dana

Indeed it looks like your Tweed/Tude Volume pot switch is wrong.
Missing jumper, coax, etc. I'd check that area very carefully.

Chris...

Tough to tell for sure form the pics but it doesnt look like he does.

-Talking about the two push/pull pots:
There are two sets of terminals for the pots and all leads should be going to EITHER the front or the back set of them, but not both....I can see in your pictures your Fat switch is good, but I cant quite see if you have leads going to both sets of terminals on the Tude switch.

Yep, the 'tude switch was missing the jumper and I had the shield wire going to the wrong terminal. I re-wired it again last night, leads were already going to the same set of terminals (so that wasn't the initial error)...fired it up again...and the silence continues...

I'll try to take some better pics tonight and post them.

Thanks for all of the help!

Here's a couple pics I took after re-soldering the 'tude switch and the master volume pot (still getting the same results though).

Are there any other (suspect) components that you'd like to see a little closer or from another angle?

After much head scratching on my part, I ended up taking my amp to Chris to further troubleshoot...and voila! Another tramp is born! Apparently not a lot of work needed to be done, but with my (lack of) experience, who knows how long it would have taken me to do it! It sounds great! "Giddy" would be an appropriate phrase! Thanks so much to all of those who helped out - Stephen, Chris, and also my neighbours at amp-camp! Indeed an unforgettable experience! Now to get 'er into the studio! :D

How does the Red Fang sound in the Tramp?
Did you compare it to other speakers?

I think it's safe to say that I'm still in the "breaking in" stage...but I'm very happy with the fang...I'm not sure how to describe it in words. I did throw in an EL34 as well...louder than I expected, and without immediate comparisons (I don't want to mislead you, everyone's looking for something I guess), but to me it sounds great! I had fun with the loud/distorted tones (reminded me of a "woody" '70's Angus Young tone with my les paul...maybe...hard to say, but it felt that way!). I still need to sit down and see what else it offers with the push/pull options. I'm hoping to find a good clean tone too...but it's my own fault...I keep scissor kicking and duck-walking :P

I think the Red Fang (10" or 12") is a great match for the Tramp. I tried half a dozen speakers & I felt the others weren't even in the same league. IMO of course...
