Floating the idea of a Tramp-le (Lite Edition) and removing:

VRM;
GAIN SWITCH;
FAT SWITCH;
IMPEDANCE SELECTOR;
OUTPUT JACKS;

6V6 SUPPORT ONLY; AND
VOICED IN 'TUDE / FAT MODE ONLY.

Cost slightly less than a full kit but the benefit is an easier, more enticing build for beginners. Since it would use the same chassis, board, transformers, it could always be upgraded or tweaked.

Any comments on the idea?

Depends on the the difference in cost between the two :hmmm:

Also I would suggest if you go this route that you offer a kit upgrade package so that those who want to "all the way" to a full Tramp after the initial lite build can easily get the "upgrade" parts.

If the costs get to be too close it may be better to sell the full kit and have the documentation show both the "heavy" and "lite" schematics and layouts so the builder has everything he needs for the later upgrade :D

I guess like everything else, it comes down to the $$ :wink:

The price difference is not that much. Maybe the lite layout is a good idea. :hmmm:

The area that needs to work around is the VRM since it removes the need for a stand-by switch and we would provide a progressive switch instead.

Have to think some more.

It's not so much about cost, as about making it a real simple-build for the first timer. I like the idea of the upgrade kit BTW.

An upgrade kit was an option under consideration.

You could do without the standby switch too. Not a critical component in an amp that size.

I wouldnt t want to forgo a standby switch of some sort in this amp. Solid state rectifier with 400+ V on the power tube plates instantly may be a bit more than a less than 'super-tube' could handle for any extended life.

I think there would also be a problem due to the fact that everyone expects a tube amp to have a Standby switch, and I'm sure quite a few would complain if there wasn't one. And a Standby switch is real handy as a mute switch too.

You could always go with one of those progressive switches to save space and still have the power/standby/off thing. Maybe? :damntech:

That would be the plan.

It may be too late for a Tramp LE version for most of us here Stephen. I'm already trying to decide where to put all the LED status indicators and provisions for footswitches :P You really could use some input from those still waffling over building a kit at all, like the people interested in the amp building class...
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1923

To be honest, the Tramp as it stands is a bit more complicated than I had expected. That said, with some tweaks to the layout drawing it probably wouldn't be any more complicated than a Deluxe. If I were me (which I am) I would put my time into simplifying/clarifying the layout drawing rather than subtracting features 8)
Just my two cents (keep the change Phil :P )

I'm all eyes and ears. Shoot me an email with any layout suggestions. :idea:

It is more complicated than a deluxe, there's no denying that. 5 controls, 2 pull switches, an impedance selector and power level control will do that! But there's only 1 input :?

It's still a real simple 2-tube amp. OK it's got a couple of pull pots and a TMB stack, but to me it still seems simpler overall than a Deluxe, and you've only got two tube sockets to wire up. :D

I'm also in favour of the LE version. You can cover a whole lot of ground with just the 'Tude mode.
