The Tramp has now been tried with a 6V6 tube and then with a 6L6 for more volume & headroom.

6V6 5 watts versus 10 watts with 6L6 when on max VRM.

With one change, it can use both tubes.

 With the Hammond PT & Heyboer OT, start with a 750 ohm cathode resistor in 6V6 mode, switch in 570 ohm in parallel to get about 320 ohms total and you can run a 6L6.

You wont believe it's only a two tube amp! Seriously :!:

How does the 6L6 sound?

If the PT could handle the filament current and the socket was configured correctly you could even throw a EL34 in there. That would be cool!

PT / OT is designed/should handle 6v6 thru to KT66. OT I spec'd has dual impedance to include EL34 Just havent tried them all yet.

6L6 was loud, still broke up nicely when pushed with the gain control. Nice, meaty sound and relly clean if you wnted it that way. Plenty of headroom too. Good thing for the Volume control & VRM. :D

Running the Tramp in 'tude mode with an EL34 basically gives you a baby size Marshall.
