:?: I've had my Triwatt complete for a while now and I'm using it with my band as my #1. it sounds great and has performed flawlessly but.......
It's pretty loud. I've been using 6V6 tubes and now I'm trying some KT66's. If I am not using the OD channel I can push the volumes and use the master to get a nice level but if I engage the OD (which I love) the master volume has a very limited useful range (and it's at such a low setting that it's very touchy). Is there anything that can be done to make the master easier to use without affecting the normal channel?

So the Master Volume performs OK when in Normal mode, but his less effective in OD mode. Did I get that correct?

Is your MV pot linear or audio taper? In some cases a linear MV pot can be touchy at the bottom of the range.

I'm thinking in a similar preamp design, anyone tried to switch between two master pots to have a separate OD master with a DPDT relay?silly idea?

That's more or less what the OD control does.

Uses a switch to add another stage of active gain.

A more useful mod would to be adding another pot after the "od stage" to control the overall volume.

That's a good idea. A sort of mix control between clean & OD would be useful. Dumble like?

Exactly!

I always figured if I built a Triwatt I'd try that.

You could set the pre-volume (OD control) with a trim and have the pot on the panel control the overall volume.

You could also use a dual gang pot and change both at the same time. Might take a couple extra tapering/setting resistors but would be fun to experiment with.
