Hey ya'll, I'm currently prepping to do my first ever amp build (the 5E3 kit with the VRM), and I was wondering if there's anything you know now that you wish you knew prior to attempting your first build.

I've spent a few days studying up, wrapping my head around all the documentation, and going over the BOM (everything was shipped beautifully Stephen, thank you!). I'm really excited to get started, figured I'd poke around the forum first and maybe help myself dodge some avoidable rookie pitfalls. Would appreciate any advice ya'll have to offer, thanks in advance

You didn't mention any level of previous experience, sooo...
1) Learn to solder. Good post in Resources section: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1261
2) Know how to use a multimeter (where to measure AC voltages and where to measure DC voltages)
3) Know how to identify parts types of resistors, capacitors, etc.
4) Look at other peoples pictorial builds
5) There's a lot of info in the Backstage>Resources section

Edited Soldering link

Thanks Hank! I've got a ton of experience with guitar electronics and have built my fair share of pedals + mic preamps, so I've got my soldering and the component ID down to a science. I have a nice meter as well, but measuring voltages is still a bit foreign to me as I've never really worked on amps (esp high voltages). Going to do a bunch of studying up before I attempt the first round of tests.

The build pictorals I've found on here have been really helpful thus far, and I've already got most of the hardware installed and the eyelet board populated + soldered. So far, so good. I'll definitely take a peak at the resources section tomorrow before moving forward. Appreciate all the suggestions bud, thanks again!
