Hi,

Finally finished the Deluxe amp build, turned it on (VRM type switched pot), pilot light is on, nice quiet hum from the transformer, the power tubes and rectifier tube warmed up and glowing, but no sound. With guitar connected I think I did get some sound for a moment, when trying different inputs, but maybe I just imagined amplified sound!

Will probably take it into guitar shop to show me the error of my ways, as it's my first build and don't know where to start. Any obvious things to check that don't involve lethal voltages!

Still feel proud of myself for completing it though!

Cheers, Rich

Maybe measure the voltages as per the layout and let us know what they are. That is a good starting point.

Well, I sought the help of a local man in a shed (friendly amp technician) and he sorted out the issue of my dead Deluxe. Apparently I had wired the Zenner diode on the VRM the wrong way around - I wasn't aware there was a right way round?! He tidied up a couple of solder joints too. Other than that, he said, "it was good work," which I felt pleased with, since it's my first amp.

Sounds great, really lush and vibrant. I've only had a quick play, so haven't investigated the full range of the sounds. The VRM works really well, but it's still a loud amp! Will post some build pics if I figure out how...

A collective thanks to everyone on the forum that helped me out with all kind of queries along the way, from soldering tips to speaker selection! :D

cheers, Rich

Diodes are polarized, they have a cathode and anode. O well, doesn't matter now, you got it working. Enjoy, it's a fun amp.
