Hi,
Started working on my deluxe thought I share some pic’s of the progress, got the chassis and trafos from Stephen. Planning on adding a vvr but instead of having the control on the faceplate I’m planning on mounting a heat sink and the pot on the back panel of the amp. I also planning on using a 220v light bulb instead of the 6,3v running of the heater wires . And planning of connecting the heaters right on the 6v6 instead of going all the way around the trafo, any thoughts on this?

Chassis should be heat sink enough for VVR. 6.3 direct to 6V6 is good.

Love the amp cradle, talk to me about it!!

Hi,
The cradle’s legs is made of 25mm(1”) alu, the small parts is also made of alu.
The rotating parts is made of stainless steel , the crossbar is steel . the plastic parts is from and office chair. Very simple to build if you have access to a metal lathe and a saw whit a alu blade and of curse some patience.

Looks nice,

If you get a lot of hum, or overly distorted sounds, check out the first 2 Oil paper caps with the metal bodies, I had a problem with one Tweed I used & changing the caps to poly, made the difference.

Just be aware of it

Wow, perfect work! Looks like you used a micrometer, setting all the parts and wires in accurate alignment. Do you alphabetize your food cans in the pantry, and stack your coins in order on the bedroom dresser? Just kidding... you're doing a superb job on that amp. I love my Deluxe, and think you'll have the most satisfying part of the experience when you can fire it up! Although with that great wiring and mounting job, you'll probably want to show it off to your friends...

Best,
Jim

Hi ,
Tanks for the kind words , did finish the amp to day and fired it up very quiet. Tested it fist whit a Jensen c12n speaker not very loud but it wasn’t mounted in a cab, then I tested whit a ac 15 combo whit a celestion blue. The amp sounded super loud and fine , got to thank Stephen for supplying me whit a very fine chassis and trafo set. No I have to mount a VVr and build a cabinet . Planning on mounting the VVr on the back off the chassis whit it a heat sink and the control pot . Btw this is my first scratch build the first amp I made was a sIII kit from Stephen .

Thanks for the info Malt. I've been using HOTweezers™ since the early 80's. They're not distributed in the USA any more, probably because they would never meet UL the way they're built  I have a few sets but the handsets go after a while. The power supplies last forever, although the shut off/holding stands do break over time.

Phil... The HOTweezers™ are IMO the best thermal strippers out there, once you get a rhythm going with them. They can burn or melt a bit on PVC coated wire if you're not careful, but they are a must for Teflon® coated. Light weight handset, no nicks in the wire (when used correctly), they have a great length gauge for repeatable strip lengths, etc. They are fairly costly though!!
