I just finished my 5e3 and my voltage readings are really high.

12ay7:
Pin 1 : 314 (need 120)
Pin 3 : 4 (need 1.1)
Pin 6 : 310 (need 123)
Pin 8 : 4 (need 2)

12ax7:
Pin 1 : 385 (need 167)
Pin 3 : 3 (need 1.1)
Pin 6 : 486 (need 175)
Pin 8 : 108 (need 70.5)

6v6:
Pin 3 : 851 (need 380)
Pin 4 : 797 (need 338)
Pin 8 : 53 (need 22)

6v6:
Pin 3 : 849 (need 382)
Pin 4 : 795 (need 339)
Pin 8 : 53 (need 22)

any ideas where i messed up?

:::::update i made a stupid mistake...meter was on ac instead of dc.
here are the new readings:

12ay7:
Pin 1 : 143 (need 120)

Pin 8 : 2 (need 2)

12ax7:
Pin 1 : 177 (need 167)
Pin 3 : 1.4 (need 1.1)
Pin 6 : 220 (need 175)
Pin 8 : 49 (need 70.5)

6v6:
Pin 3 : 384 (need 380)
Pin 4 : 361 (need 338)
Pin 8 : 24 (need 22)

6v6:
Pin 3 : 386 (need 382)
Pin 4 : 362 (need 339)
Pin 8 : 24 (need 22)


some of these seem off by a bit did I mess up?

Those voltages seem insane. I'm no expert but are you sure you're using the proper tools and measuring the voltages the right way?

cool...also i notice as i mess with the volume knobs i get some squealing, is this normal?

Yes, if you are getting squealing, try reversing the OT leads to the output tubes. They are colour coded and should be fine if you followed the layout, but you never know.

I checked my wiring with the diagram and it is exactly what it should be, but I'll try reversing it and let you know what happens

found it...It wasn't the OT lead though....I had missed soldiering the middle lug ground connection on two of the the input jacks. she's all quite now...thanks for all the help...sound clips will follow..:-)

The voltages will run on the high side with JJ (and perhaps some other) currently produced rectifier tubes. You might try a NOS in that position if you don't already have one installed. Then decide which sound you like best. NOS are pricey, but hey, money will soon be worth nothing anyway with the US stock market collapse. :? But your voltages shouldn't be a problem as is (as are?).
