Okay, I got a chance to play with another of Steve's amps, the sIII V6. with this amp you get

the choice of two different output tubes, the EL84's and the 6V6, tubes from two of Marshall's eras. being the hacker I am, I just tried to capture the sounds a metal head such as myself looks for. I either like it clean or balls-out.

I am a bit of a minimalist when it comes to guitar amps, so I like the versatility of this one.

You can get tons of usable sounds without any stompboxs cluttering the floor.

A bit about the rig. I plugged the sIII into my 67 Vintage Traynor Cab with a 15" speaker (No idea what it is - don't want to take it apart). All tracks were recorded using the Attenuator coco loaned me.

Guitars were my two mainstays, a Korean Squire Strat with Lace sensors and my 1976 Re-Issue Gibson Explorer with stock pickups.

No effects were used either in the recording or mix down.

Again, I apologize for my playing, I get so little time to crank it up these days ;-(

The Awake track was recorded with the Bright switch on and the default output tubes, the EL84's and my trusty Gibson Explorer. For this stuff, every Button on the TMB channel was on 10. Nigel Tufnel would be proud!

THe Death On the Dancefloor track was recorded again with the same setup as the previous, but with the 6V6's pumping the wattage. They are a bit fuller sounding, but somewhat cleaner than the EL84's

The remaining tracks were recorded with my Squire strat with the Lace Sensors.

My Friends was recorded with everything on boom as above, but the volume on the guitar being set at 3 for the clean, 10 for the bridge section and back to 3 for the end. I like the jangly sound from these V6's when clean!

Next, apologies to Jimmy, I used the maxed out setting above, but with the bright switch disengaged.

Lastly, the AC/DC tune, turned on the bright for a bit of Bon Scott type of bite - Miss that guy! I know I probably should've used the explorer, but...hell, that's what came out!

Thanks again to coco for the chance to play the V6!

Update:

In listening to these clips to verify the links worked, I realized I probably didn't have to have everything on 10. But my goal here was to show that this rig has gain in spades - even for a thrasher like me!

John.
