Here is a clip lbet did today. I'll let him describe the gear, git etc. but couldn't wait to post them.

coco comment: I like the FX version but I know some like the dry stuff. It's interesting so see how easily you can go from pickin clean to OD on that clip. I guess you just dig in a little more!

Yeah, I like the raw sound of the amp, without the effects. I don't use any effects - sold all my pedals, except my Morley WAH, which is collecting dust somewhere. Of course, if you heard me play, you'd know effects don't cover up lack of technique :D

Ahh the first clip of many. This one was done with the controls all at 12 o'clock except for the master that was at 3 o'clock. The guitar was plugged into the bright channel and the overdrive was engaged.

This amp has a lot of characters as the yet to be posted clips will show. The character exposed with a strat in this clip is one with midrange grit good highs and a nice handling of the strat quack without a deep mid scoop.

For me, playing the amp with the boost enabled is the way to go....but this could simply be due to under education.

The next set of clips are done with 4 guitars the Triwatt and Marshall 4x12 slant cab. The cab contains vintage G12-65's which are not the brightest and chimiest speaker in the Celestion stable and have smoother top end than newer production Celestions. The cab was mic'ed with a single SM57 aimed at the upper right hand speaker.

The guitars:
Les Paul Custom - Equipped with Wolfetone Marshallhead pickups
64 Gretsch Nashville - Stock
JV 62 RI Strat - Pickups from an 83 strat.

I did one clean pass and one overdriven pass for each guitar. Each pass has totally dry run and one with delay, reverb and or chorus as required. For the clean tones I (mostly) used the amp with overdrive off. For the other clean tones and all the OD tones I had OD enabled. All of the clips were done at very low volume except for the les paul clips that were done at very high volume.

For my tastes I prefer to use the amp as a pedal platform live. As soon as I get my bi-weekly project reports done I will plug in the pedal board and do some more clips.

Mostly yes. There is a little bit of neck at the end of the dirty strat clip. But the clean clip doesn't sound harsh to you does it?

Sounds good, lbet. I liked the dirty clips, especially. Sounds nice and responsive to pick attack, especially the voodoo... White Wedding sounded good to, liked the mix.

mmmmmmm.....distortion......

lbet likes to use the Bright Channel. Live & in a club, this is invaluable. On record, that may be a different story.

Loved the LP Dirty too. White Wedding!!

Get rid of those little clangy speakers too!! Feed your mp3 player!

Actually, it's the clean clips that sounded harsh to me. Way too bright and clangy for me but it could be my crappy notebook speakers. I really dig the dirty clip tho :)

Mmmmmmm. Let me revisit the strat clips. It's important that everything sounds right going to file. I'm not using any eq or any tone shaping in pro tools.....even for the "with effects" versions so what you hear is what the SM57 gets. Perhaps this time I'll use both channels as it might work better for single coils.

Cheers
Larry

Shine On - Fender Strat, no effects, 12AX7 PI, 6V6 power tubes, OD engaged about 1 o'clock, MV 11 o'clock. Tone control all 11 - 1 o'clock.

Marshall 4x12 slant cab with vintage G12-65's - have smoother top end than newer production Celestions. The cab was mic'ed with a single SM57 aimed at the upper left hand speaker.

I'll take a picture of the TRIWATT settings & post it.

Wow, that amp has got just the best lows - clear and tight, and it sounds like it feels really responsive. Very nice natural sound, with lots of sustain and presence, and it sounds like it runs really quietly. My Trinity 5E3 is like that, too - pin the thing, even with a Strat, and there's just no noise.

Thanks for the clips!
