Hey guys. My Lightning board is almost complete, but somehow I left out a capacitor from a parts order. I don't have a 250uF 63 volt (the one next to the 120 ohm 15 watt resistor on the Trinity 15 layout; sorry I don't the name of this cap). However, I do have a 220 uF 35 volt Nichicon electrolytic (yeah, the one from Radio Shack). Can I safely use this instead? If so, what effect, if any, on sound? I notice that the Ceri@tone layout shows this as a 220uF 63 volt cap, so I figure I can use the 220 uF I have, but I am concerned because it's only a 35 volt cap... your input is appreciated!!!

John

You will be fine with that cap. A 25V is all that's really necessary here and the capacitance difference is not so critical. BTW, that's the Cathode Bypasss Capacitor.

Thanks! Hey, can you tell me how I can find out how each of the caps and resistors on the board are named? Website, maybe? Thanks Stephen!

Meaning no disrespect, but I'm afraid the answer to that question is "learn to read a schematic". Which means that you also have to have a concept of how triodes and RC filters work.

A good tutorial is at ax84.com.

http://www.ax84.com/dp.php?pg=projects&project=p1

Documents: Dave Sorlien's Excellent P1 Theory Download it & give it a read.
