Has anyone tried a Baxandall tone stack on the Spitfire? As long as insertion loss wasn't horrible, it seems like an interesting idea to toy with...

I've decided that this mod would probably be better suited for the Lightning circuit rather than the Spitfire since the extra gain stage in the Lightning helps to make up for the insertion losses associated with the low-high tone stack arrangement. I do wonder what a Baxandall tonestack would sound like with the Lightning, though. I think that could be pretty cool... 8)

One thing you can try is to make the 10K resister into a fully functional Midrange control. This really isn't any different than the "raw" control mod described last year in ToneQuest for Deluxe Reverbs.

Replace the 10K resister with a 25K or 50K audio taper pot. You can even reuse the 10K resister (one end to the middle lug of the pot and the other end to the pot casing/ground) so that when you turn down the midrange you get the stock 10K value. Very cool mod for BF/SF era Fenders and a cool mod for the Spitfire I built.

That's an interesting idea. Do you find it to be useful on the Spitfire? I don't want something that will give me a boomy low-mid sound... 8)

EDIT: OK, I looked at the schematic, and there is no 10K resistor shown. What resistor is it that I would change for a midrange control mod?
