Hi,

Can someone share some plans for the 18w 2x12 combo?

I think its H20''xW28''xD9'' with a 16 1/2'' x 2 3/8'' cut out for the chassis.

I do not know the top grill cutout or the thickness of the ply. I read 13 layer ply, and also 1/2'' ply.

Can you guys please help me with the thickness, or post any plans for this?

Thanks,
João

I'm in the process of building one of these right now and would really like to build the 2 x 12 combo, could I have a copy of the plans too?

I'm scratch building the chassis, it's not a kit. I've been looking for cabinet plans for something to house it in, and ran across this thread via a Google images search. The chassis is some horrible Chinese thing that looks like it's intended to go into a a head cabinet (tubes on top of the chassis), but I'd really like to build it as a 2 x 12 combo. I have a full wood shop and would like to scratch build the cabinet too.

Can some confirm that the difference between the 1X12 combo and a 2x12 combo is only 4 inches?
All other dimensions are the same.

28" wide is pretty standard for a 2x12. A 12" speaker is really less than 12" so there's plenty of room in 28" for two speakers, battons and your cabinet sides.

The cone is less than 12" but the basket is often 1/8"-1/4" more in my experience.

28" with 5/8" thick material etc. makes for a pretty tight fit. Be sure to measure it out.

I’m a few years late to this post! I am trying to do the same thing, so thanks for the helpful information. My problem is joining the corners. I have built previous cabinets with pine and used a dovetail jig and router successfully. But I am using birch plywood for this build, and even with a brand new router bit, the plywood chipped away badly when I tried to cut the tails. Any ideas? I was going to either try hand cut box joints, or resort to butt joints with some internal bracing.

Plywood and fancy joinery don't go well together. If you are using baltic birch plywood, box joints work, but they would be very time consuming to cut by hand. Also difficult to get a nice tight fit without using some kind of jig and either a table saw or a router.

I would just use but joints with internal bracing and lots of glue and screws.

We do use box joints with a jig. Suggest you use biscuit joints if you cant to the box joints. Fast, strong. We use on most of our head cabs now.

Thanks, Stephen. I may buy a biscuit joiner tomorrow. What size biscuits do you use with a half inch plywood? Can you use the number 10? Or do you need to stick with #0? Thanks!
