Hello all. Recently finished my first build. It's an sIII V6. I'm hearing a random scratchy/static like noise when switched to the EL84's. This does not change with volume and happens with or without a cable plugged into the inputs.

The noise will most times go away completely after powered up for a few minutes. That being said, I have heard it come back while playing thru the TMB channel. (have not noticed it come back when using the normal channel yet, but the unit's only been assembled for a couple of days)

I would appreciate any hints as to a diagnostic path. I will say that I need to re-route some wiring from the turret board to the tubes as after finishing the build I read some tips indicating a different approach would be better for noise.

Thoughts?
Thanks
Peter

Me being a novice builder, I found some bad solder joints in my Tweed. I would suggest chopsticking your wiring (one handed and with a wooden chopstick) with the amp on My main problem was the input jacks on my build. If that's too scary, carefully inspect your solder joints and reflow any suspect ones (after making sure capacitors are discharged and amp unplugged, of course). And if that doesn't help, you may try PM'ing Coco (Stephen C.).

Reflow your solder joints on the areas that are sepcific to the noise. i.e. TMB EL84 signal path.

Thanks guys.... that did the trick for the random noises. Getting minor feedback now... could you please check out the mp3 here and maybe provide a hint? This was just recorded from my iphone.. guitar straight into the amp on tmb channel. The only part of the build I've not finished yet is adding the caps on V1 for the VRM as i need to get the resistors to go with em...

Thanks in advance.

Sorry , I can only suggest reading pgs. 76 &77 of the the build manual, If you have already tried those, then Coco may be able to help. I'm still pretty much still a novice myself.

How loud was this at the time ?

If not crank try swaping a different preamp tube into the first three positions
