Hello all!

I recently purchased an assembled Triwatt.

It came installed with 6V6s, and had been jamming on it in my basement.
I installed some KT66s and biased them. Jammed some more on it, with no issue and took it to band practice.

After about 15-20 minutes, the amp got really brittle/tinny/harsh and substantially quieter.
It still made sound, but just not very loud.
Now it does this at home each time I try to use it.

The tubes are new, so I'm not suspecting those.........but I am suspecting a cold solder joint.

I've worked on amps before, but am not a tech.
(I can work safely, and solder)

Where should I be starting to look for issues?
Obviously start by looking for any obviously bad solder joints or unsoldered joints.
From there....should I be looking in the power or preamp section? Does this issue sound like a certain portion of the circuit?
Can I take any voltage readings to try to find the problem?

Was the amp bought from Trinity? If yes, I would contact them first.

Otherwise I'd start by checking the voltages inside the amp (assuming you know how). The operating voltages can be found in the Reference section of the forum.

What happens if you put the 6V6's back in?

It might be a bad solder joint somewhere, a bad tube socket or bad new tubes. The voltage measurements will tell us more.

Not from Trinity. Someone built the kit, then sold it.

:illin:

Can I download the assembly manual somewhere?
I see the layout and schematic are posts in the "resources" section of the forum....but that's it.

Manual emailed. Do go back to the 6V6 and see if the problem goes away. That will help a lot.

It wil tell you if the problem is somewhere with the bias switch inside, the zener diode, the KT66 bias resistor or the wiring inbetween them all. Check the schematic /layout

You have to be logged in, then the Resources section will appear down in the Back Stage area.
