This is my first amp and after a busy few month or two I was able to start.
I am not a complete beginner when it comes to any of the skills needed and am well versed in how tube amps work . Anyway all help/comments/suggestions are welcome if you see anything wrong don't be afraid to call me out. I will be adding the VRM module after completing the amp

Took a break because this year was busy for me but I’m back at it and I have almost finished the power section

Yep checked the voltages though I ran into something that confused me slightly the schematic call for the c10 capacitor to have a value of 50uf and I don’t have any of those but I do have 47uf capacitors are those what’s supposed to be used in that spot also are the non polarized 502 code capacitors supposed to be the .0047 capacitors

Also the kit is missing the r15 470ohm resistor does it matter what type of resistor I use to replace it (carbon film metal film etc.)

normally a carbon comp but a carbon film or metal film is fine.

Finished the amp now having some troubleshooting issues the volume on the normal channel is really quiet and there is no volume on the tmb channel. What I was going to do to start was check all my connections and make sure everything is in the right place

Meaure all the voltages. Compare to the chart.
Check all grounds and jumpers and connections to/from the board.
Make sure all the above board turret jumpers are in place correctly.

Wow. Two years to build an amp! I've had projects like that, too, but they weren't guitar amps.

Anyway, recheck all your wiring and solder connections. Make sure all the parts are in the right places. Also, you could try bypassing the VRM for now and see how the amp works. I'd get an amp working normally before I did anything that messes with the B+.

Also, have a look at the VRM builder's guide in the Support section on this site. It says to modify the preamp inputs a bit by adding some capacitors and moving the 1Meg resistors if you use a VRM.

VRMs are simple circuits and they can be handy things to have, but they can cause builders a lot of trouble.

Agree . Run it without the VRM first to establish your baseline. Let us know how that works. Didn't the amp tech test it at max ?

Actually played the amp a bit more and problem only happens with the 6v6s so I changed the 6v6s and the problem was still there. Also I noticed the problem is affected by the vrm but I think now they might be unrelated I might have accidentally plugged the output of the amp into essentially a dead short with the power turned up anyway just brainstorming and looking for things to check it sounds amazing besides this issue and overall even though it took 2 years I am satisfied with how it’s going. Also the el84s work perfectly and the sputtering is like a gated fuzz pedal. I doubt the problem is the OT
Because of the el84s working perfectly maybe the bias circuit or the plate voltage? I’ll measure them when I get a chance

Check that the grid leak resistors for the 6V6 are in correctly as they connect to the EL84s. And heck the bias voltage too.
