Greetings from Bangkok.

Just got started on this build.
I will add some pictures, and probably ask a bunch of questions.

But first, There wasn't a 250KL trim pot in my package, But it seems to be a B250K pot instead.
Does that make any difference?

Cheers

Nicolai

Bangkok, Thailand.

Todays progress.

Forgot how fun this is.
I am no expert by any means.
So I rely heavily on the layout as well as pictures.

I have to stop often and think, and figure things out.
Like how to identify the orange drop caps.

Here are some more pics.
These are high res, taken with my Sony camera.

Let me know id you spot something odd......

These photos are great - I'm going to start my OSD build soon, and this thread is really helpful. :)

Todays progress.

Didnt have a lot of time today, but got the relay board soldered, and solved a problem with 240V writing, thanks to Stephen.

One more day, and I can start the startup procedures.

Spend most of the day making pickled beetroot and cucumber, but managed to do some work on the relay board, and V1 and V2.
I expect to almost finish tomorrow.

Again if you spot something odd, please let me know.

Finished.

Just need to finish the footswitch.
Tomorrow I will make a lightbulb current limiting device, and try to start it up.

This was not easy. And I am definitely rusty,
The Relay PCB board is tricky, but I think I got it right. Well see.

Everything is double checked, I measured all the resistors before I started, and again, before mounting it.
All solderings seem solid.

Thanks to Stephen for great documentation and support.

Successfully started up the Amp with a bulb device.

Nothing blew up, so I put in the tubes.
Still it didn't blow up.

Biased the tubes, and plugged in a guitar.
Only problem I can find is a problem with the volume, so I need to check that.

More to come.

I'm not sure if this is the answer to your problem with volume but I had a problem when I completed my build that sounds similar. I got sound to come out but the volume did not seem to have any affect, in fact when it was turned completely down there was still sound.

Here is what I eventually discovered was my error:
I was a first time builder and followed the step by step diagrams and missed connecting the control ground bus to the chassis ground. I did not catch this until looking over the layout really carefully and spotting the one connection between the control bus and the chassis ground near the input and first volume control. Once I connected this my OSD sounded great except I had some other issues I had to deal with regarding the relays and my overdrive but this mistake with the unconnected control bus might be what might help you as I don't know if I see this on any of your images.

Hope this helps!

Thanks man.

A couple of first hand observations.
Mid Switch is either very subtle, or is wired wrong. Jazz switch looses a lot of bottom, almost sounds out of phase.
Same with the preamp boost.
Maybe this is intentional, I dont know.
But the Rock side sounds fenomenal. As does the OD.

Can you post closeups of your toggle switch wiring showing Bass, Treble pots as well? The angle in your posted on here was not clear enough but I do suggest you compare it to the latest layout wiring.

Here is a snapshot of just the relay and toggle switch wiring .

Here are some better pics.

I Checked some more, and all seems good to me. Bass works in jazz mode, but in Rock mode, bass seems to be full on, and I can't turn it down. Please take a look when you have a minute. Maybe thats the reason Jazzmode seems a lot weaker. Anyway, The OD is absolute incredible.

Does the Orange wire from Bass go to the correct pad on the PAB Relay board? Not the ground pad.
Does the Blue wire from the Rock/Jazz switch pin 4 go to 0.1 uF on the board??
Do the Black wires from the Rock/Jazz switch pins 2 & 5 go to the correct PAB pads on the relay board?
Can't get a good look at the Relay board connections.
I would confirm these all against the picture posted on the relay board connections.
Otherwise looks OK.

Mid boost looks correct.

All connections are good.

Two things though, I cant seem to measure the two 22M resistors. But I know I measured them before I soldered them.
Also, the 220k resistor that goes to the relay board, measure at 120k.

Other than that everything checks out.

I will try to find a 220 k res, and change that.
I actually had one, but looking at the colorcode on previous kits, it looked right.

I did have a couple of resistors in surplus after the kit was done.

Ok, so that 220k was a 220k, just measure different on the board.

Everything else seem as it should.

Relay works as planned.

And connections are solid.

As I can see, its the only thing not working.
The amp sounds stunning, especially the Rock switch, only theres to much bass.

I will leave it for a couple of days, and check it again.

Stephen, if you have a minute, please check my post in the Triwatt forum.

I went back to basics, checked the schematic, checked the layout, checked the reference build here and tested all the combinations with bass and all switches (no relay tho). Looking for a mistake at my end and all I can say is, it works fine.
So you should trace the connections / continuity through from component to component against the layout. Maybe check continuity to board/components with Rock ON an then switch Rock OFF to see if there are any changes.

By the way, the Blue wire from the Rock/Jazz switch pin 4 should go to the board .1uf cap, NOT to ground?

Thanks Stephen.

I will do that.
The blue wire does connect to the .1uf cap, its just connected under the board.

To test mine, I plugged in a guitar cable snd a speaker. Turned the vol down and touched the end to cause a hum. Then I started flipping switches to see what happened and they all workedq.
