I made the mistake of not checking my jumper layout. The yellow line on the attached file shows how I f%^&ed up.This led to removing the board after completely installing it, very loud hum with no input signal and endless frustration before I finally figured it out.

Glad you found the problem. It's great to finally track down a problem that's been bugging you for a while.

Looks like your jumper mistake would have just permanently grounded the input. I can see the amp not passing any signal like that, but there shouldn't have been a lot of hum. If the amp isn't working right yet maybe you have more wiring problems between the input jack and V1.

It's always good to double check all your wiring, then check it again. It's been suggested here to make a copy of either the layout drawing or the schematic, then use a marker to highlight the connections as you check them.

Personally, I like to refer to the schematic and use an ohmmeter to make sure everything that's supposed to be connected actually is, and nothing accidentally got shorted together.

Yes. Definitely pays to make a copy of the layout and color over each wire as you install it. I also like to put a check mark next to the wire to after I've checked it for continuity. If you take your time and don't rush, and double check everything you should not run into problems. We're always so anxious to get these projects finished and that leads to problems. Much easier to do it right the first time than trying to trace down problems afterwards.

1. check off on the layout/ even schematic as you build it.
2. ring it out with a continuity test as final check.

Good advice!
