 Post subject: Wiring "tude" Pot/Switch

Another newbie question :D - I'm not totally understanding the shielded wire connection to lug #1 and #2 on the pot. Is there basically a jumper between these lugs? I've never used shielded wire before, so I don't get the core vrs. shield thing.

Here is a link to guide you when preparing shielded cable:

The outer part (the shield) connects to lug number one of the volume pot. The central part of the cable is soldered to lug number two.

The shield at the other end is not connected to anything.
