i'm giving some thougtht to adding one of these...

http://www.jogis-roehrenbude.de/Roehren ... 2/6AL7.htm

to my just-completed lightning. I have to have a look at the front of my chassis but I should have room to put one in the front of the amp chassis, mounted on a 90-degree angle inside the chassis (the display is on the top of the tube).

it has b+ handling up to 350volts or so, and 6.3volt 150ma heaters current..

i think all i'll need to do is hang a voltage divider off one of the power tubes or the signal before the phase splitter, and just tweak it to have the right voltage range (-5.8 to 0 volts, or so), and it could add some really funky pizazz to the amp :)

the tubes are dirt cheap too; $3 to 6 for new old stock tubes...

what do you guys think? is it doable? should i try? will i fuckup the signal by hanging a divider off it?

They are pretty cool. These were used years ago in some radios as a tuning type of indicator. Looks like they suck up a lot of current tho.

actually, now that i look at it, there's really not enough room inside my lightning to squeeze one of those in there...

but, my ax84 p1 extreme, is in a nice giant 3 unit rackmount case so there's more freaking room on that thing than I know what to do with, and it's just begging for a rebuild anyway, so i think that bad boy is gonna get a new power transformer, a 6al7 display meter, and probably a second 6550 in parallel (i use it for bass so the extra power will do wonders)

so my lightning will remain pure ;)

My labsystem cage 30 head (aussie made boutique amp head) has a tuning eye for visual effect that looks like a green beam that expands the harder or louder you play. People go "ooohh, thet looks cool!" when they see it on a dark stage!
