We’re called Trinity Amps because
our company was started by a team spanning three generations – the
Father (Stephen), Son (Andrew) and Grandfather (Glen - a.k.a. the “Holy
Ghost of Tubes”).
Stephen (the Father) began by building basic speakers and amps in the
early 70’s and graduated to sophisticated audio gear later that
decade. He has built spectrum analyzers, solid state power level indicators,
hi power amps (>>100W RMS) using BiPolar and MosFet designs, Pre
Amps and Active Filters as well. He built all of these from “scratch,” along
the way etching circuit boards, fabricating chassis and building cabinets
and audio racks. His designs for speakers included infinite baffle, transmission
line and active two-way, bi-amped with sub-woofers long before they were
popular.
Andrew (the Son) was schooled as a youngster in piano (jazz), and played
string bass in the school orchestra. But as a young teenager, he wanted
an electric guitar for Christmas. That guitar has never left his hands
and he has become an accomplished player whose heroes include Hendrix,
Page and Clapton. With a trained, keen sense for sound and quality, his
role is to finish our cabinets and test our amplifiers, conducting the
final quality check.
Glen (the Holy Ghost of Tubes) learned about tubes in the 40’s
and 50’s, after building one of the first televisions in his hometown.
He serviced radios and televisions for years and became an avid HAM radio
operator. As a HAM operator, he learned all about tube design and operation
and applied some of that knowledge as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air
Force in the 40’s. He continued to build everything in the “HAM
shack” over the following years, including hi powered transmitters,
antennae, and test equipment. As a conserver, he was able to provide
some NOS tubes for some of our early amplifier projects. Glen still runs
a full electronic and woodworking shop, where much building still takes
place. At 70, he taught himself Basic programming, at 80, his latest
foray is into G5 Macintosh computers.
